BAER, RUTH ALBRECHT Ruth Albrecht Baer of Gainesville Florida, April 8, 2008. Born Ruth Elizabeth Albrecht on December 9, 1920, older by five minutes than her twin sister Carolyn, to Lillian Urban Albrecht and Ernst Albrecht of New Orleans, Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Martin, and her younger brother Philip. She is survived by her sister Carolyn of Novato, California, sons Paul of Jersey City, New Jersey and Charles of Gainesville, Florida, and her grand daughter Norma Corinne Baer Wayne of Gainesville. Ruth attended McMain High School in New Orleans and Newcomb College, Phi Beta Kappa, class of 1942. She subsequently obtained a Masters Degree in Psychology from Stanford University and a PhD in Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley. She taught at Chico State College and Modesto Junior College. In 1958 she married Martin Baer and moved to Berkeley California, where she bore and raised her two sons. The family moved to Houston in 1972. She returned to part-time work as a clinical psychologist with the Texas Institute for Family Psychiatry, where she worked until her retirement in 1987. After her retirement she lived part time in Houston and part time in Novato California. She and her husband moved to Gainesville in 2004. Ruth was a scholar, an intellectual, a loving wife and mother, and a deeply compassionate person. She was cherished by her friends, and adored and admired by her children's friends. She loved reading, crossword puzzles, tea, and cake. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution to the charity of one's choice. Please contact Charles or Paul Baer re services.
