Luise Bernkopf, 79, of Simsbury, passed away Thursday (January 21, 2010) at McLean Health Center. Luise was born in Dresden, Germany and emigrated to England just prior to World War II. She attended college in Wolverhampton and at the Sorbonne, was a member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists and lived in London before coming to the United States. She loved classical music, particularly chamber music, and the fine arts. She was an active volunteer including as a docent of the Wadsworth Atheneum, and a longtime member of the Town Associates of the Farmington Valley VNA and of the Board of the Friends of the Simsbury Library. Luise enjoyed arranging sightseeing trips initially for the Docents of the Atheneum and for many years for the Friends of the Simsbury Library. She is survived by her husband, Walter Bernkopf; son, Mark Bernkopf of Arlington, VA; son, Paul Bernkopf and daughter-in-law Lori (Smith) Bernkopf of West Melbourne, FL; and sister, Ursula Wellemin of Pinner, England.
A Memorial Service is planned for the near future.
