Edward Sowa 1930-2013

Edward Sowa, of Leesburg, Va., passed away surrounded by his family on Nov. 7, 2013 at 2:50 p.m.

He is the beloved husband for more than 62 years of Liane R. Sowa, and cherished father to four children: Norah Sowa of Loveland, Colorado; Martin S. Sowa of Westminster, Maryland; Leisha Sowa of Woodbridge, Virginia; and Heidi Walsh of Leesburg, Virginia. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Megan and Kaitlin. Ed will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.

Mr. Sowa was born in Fall River, Mass., Sept. 13, 1930. Joining the Navy at 18, he served in the Korean War. He later transferred to the Air Force and after 20 years retired from the service. He then joined the Federal Aviation Administration in Leesburg, Va., retiring after 25 years of service.

Soon after, he became a fixture in downtown Leesburg as the coffee roaster at “The Bean,” now King Street Coffee, where he frequently gave coffee roast- ing demonstrations. The man with the big mustache and big dog was often seen sitting outside the coffee shop, coffee in hand, enjoying time with friends and making tourists welcome. Visitation will be held on Nov. 15, 2013, at the home of Heidi Walsh, 362 Deerpath Ave., Leesburg, Va., from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Graveside services and internment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
