IRVING - James Lewis Ripps, 87, passed away Wednesdsay, Jan. 19, 2000, at a Mesquite hospital.

Memorial service: 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Irving. Reverend Michael Malone will be officiating.

Memorials: Family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Diabetes Foundation.

James Ripps was born June 3, 1912, in Coleman. He was a resident of Irving from 1970 until 1997. He was a Coast Guard veteran during World War II and the Navy during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Ripps was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Irving Noon Day Lions Club, Irving Masonic Lodge No. 1218 A.F. and A.M., Dallas Scottish Rite Valley of Dallas and Yorkrite. He was a retired meteorological engineer for the United States Weather Bureau.

He was preceded in death by his wife, May Tom Ripps; and daughter, Carolyn M. Short.

Survivors: Sons, James T. Ripps, Michael Anthony Ripps of Garland, John Joseph Ripps of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Chism-Smith Funeral Home Irving, (972) 259-7644
