BAER, Martin Moses 'Marty'
Jan. 30, 1931 - June 10, 2014

Our good friend Marty passed away after a heart operation at the Alex Spanos Heart Center at Mercy Hospital in Sacramento on June 10, 2014. He was buried beside his brother at Oakmont Memorial Park in Lafayette, CA.

Marty and his older brother, Albert were born in Germany. During World War II they were taken out of Germany to a home in France and then sponsored by the Quakers to immigrate to the USA. Marty and brother Al stayed together and ended up at the Jewish orphanage Homewood Terrace in San Francisco. Their parents and sister were unable to escape Germany.

Marty attended school in San Francisco, Fariggot Elementry, Aptos Junior High and Lincoln High School. Marty served for 6 years in the Reserves at the Presidio in San Francisco.

After graduation from High School, Marty worked for a wholesale food/restaurant supply firm making sales and collections calls. He subequently became a salesman for Schwabacher Frey and sold stationary items for many years, living in Sacramento. He owned a retail stationery business in Los Altos for a few years, but then went back to sales and Sacramento. He traveled all over the west and spent many winters traveling over the Sierras to his Reno clients.

Marty then decided to retire and spend a great deal of time improving his golf game and spending more time with his many friends and family. He and his friend John Norris traveled the world together. For many years he would travel to Honolulu to enjoy Larry Cassidy's Pro Bowl Parties and celebrate his birthday.
He is survived by sister-in-law Ellen Baer, two nieces, Leana Baer and her sons Paul Munowitch and Matthew and Jen Munowitch. And niece Denise Baer Silicani and husband Edward, and their children Monica and Michael Klemann and Bradley and Karly Silicani. And all of his Sacramento 'Family' of Friends.

The Family wishes to thank all of the outstanding Nurses and Doctors at Mercy Hospital's ICU unit for their loving care of Marty during his stay.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 3:00pm, at Larry Cassidy's River Ranch located at 1963 Garden Highway, Sacramento, CA 95833. Casual wear - no suits or ties.
