SAMUEL F. GORDON JR.; VETERAN, RETIRED ST. LOUIS CIVIL ENGINEER
Samuel Fitzhugh Gordon Jr., a former civil engineer in St. Louis, died Thursday (Dec. 8, 1994) at his home in Bumpass, Va., after a brief illness. He was 67.

Mr. Gordon was born in St. Louis. He served in the Navy in World War II and as a Marine lieutenant in the Korean War. He graduated in 1950 from Princeton University and earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Washington University.

He began his career in the early 1950s as a civil engineer with Cunliff Construction Co. in St. Louis. He later worked at Helmkamp Construction Co. for several years before he retired in 1991 and moved to Virginia.

He was a board member emeritus of Edgewood Children's Center and a former alumni board member of the Community School in Ladue. He also was a former vestryman at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Ladue.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 110 North Warson Road in Ladue. The body was cremated.

Among the survivors are his wife, Claire Pieper Gordon of Bumpass; a daughter, Jane Love of Bumpass; two sons, Samuel F. Gordon III of Warson Woods and Clifford T. Gordon of Louisville, Ky.; his mother, Julia Gordon of Richmond Heights; a sister, Julie Martin of Pleasantville, N.Y.; and a granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mary Institute-St. Louis Country Day School or to Edgewood Children's Center.
