Johanna Ellen Karlebach was also known as Johanna Ellen Hoffman.² She lived in September 1928 at 1120 5th Avenue, New York, New York.¹ As of 1941,her married name was Steil.² She married Melville Steil in 1941.² Johanna Ellen Karlebach died on 19 June 1993 at Seattle, Washington, at age 84.²

     David Karlebach was born on 1 October 1849 at Untergrombach, Baden, Germany.¹ He was the son of Abraham Karlebach and Ellen Falk Bär. David Karlebach married Jeanette Schwabacher, daughter of Lazarus Schwabacher and Jochebet Kutz, on 15 December 1879 at Untergrombach, Baden, Germany. David Karlebach died on 12 October 1896 at Dettingen, Germany, at age 47 He had been in Dettingen attending the grain market.²

     Her married name was Meerapfel. Lina Karlebach was born on 23 September 1851 at Untergrombach, Baden, Germany.^1,2 Lina Karlebach was also known as Karolina Karlebach.² She was the daughter of Abraham Karlebach and Ellen Falk Bär. Lina Karlebach married Maier Meerapfel, son of Benjamin Meerapfel and Caroline Rexinger. Lina Karlebach died on 4 August 1894 at Untergrombach, Baden, Germany, at age 42.^3,2

     Maier Meerapfel was born on 23 August 1847 at Diedelsheim, Baden, Germany.^1,2 He was the son of Benjamin Meerapfel and Caroline Rexinger.² Maier Meerapfel married Lina Karlebach, daughter of Abraham Karlebach and Ellen Falk Bär. Maier Meerapfel witnessed the marriage of an unknown person on 15 December 1879 at Untergrombach, Baden, Germany. He died on 8 January 1927 at Untergrombach, Baden, Germany, at age 79.^3,1,2

     Otto Benjamin Meerapfel was born on 19 June 1911 at Untergrombach, Baden, Germany.¹ He was the son of Phillip Meerapfel and Sofie Bär. Otto Benjamin Meerapfel married Wanda Meyer.¹ Otto Benjamin Meerapfel died on 19 September 1988 at Canada at age 77.^1,2

     Lina Bär was born on 22 September 1889.¹ Lina Bär was also known as Liesel Baer.² She was the daughter of Moses Lehmann Bär and Rosa Karlebach. Lina Bär married Phillip Meerapfel, son of Maier Meerapfel and Lina Karlebach, in 1917. As of 1917,her married name was Meerapfel. Lina Bär died on 22 October 1944 at London, England, at age 55.^2,1

     Bärle Liebmann was born circa 1720. He was the son of Liebmann Bär. Bärle Liebmann was also known as Isachar Berle Bär. Bärle Liebmann was also known as Berlin. He married Breinle (?) Bärle Liebmann died on 7 July 1784 at Untergrombach, Baden, Germany.² He was buried at Jewish Cemetery, Obergrombach, Baden, Germany.² He was listed in the 1785 Tabellarische Verzeichnis at Untergrombach, Baden, Germany. He is listed as Baerle Lippmann (abgelebter) with 2 sons, aged 25 and 30 years.³

     According to family tradition, the forefather of the Baer family was said to have come from Swabia - Rexingen and Baisingen are named as towns of origin- to Untergrombach. In this case, it was not possible to find any documented proof of the validity of this tradition. In the list of five Jews in Untergrombach in 1675 his name is not included. Therefore Liebmann Berle probably first settled in the Speyer Prince-Bishop territory around or after 1700.¹ Liebmann Bär was born circa 1690. He was the son of Dov (?) Liebmann Bär was also known as Lipmann Baer. He died circa 1750.

     Dov (?) was born circa 1650. He died circa 1710. General information on the Baer family is provided in the following documents. One of them is a letter from Dr. Grzymisch that was used to determine the names of the earliest Baer ancestors.See Dr. Grzymisch's letter in the Berthold Rosenthal Collection. In 1935, on the occasion of Fritz Bär's 70th birthday, Hermann Bär (Barr) compiled a large Baer family tree.

     Aron Bär was born circa 1746.¹ He was the son of Bärle Liebmann and Breinle (?) Aron Bär was also known as Aron Baer. He married Ester (?) Aron Bär was listed in the 1785 Tabellarische Verzeichnis at Untergrombach, Baden, Germany. Aaron Beerle had two sons aged 11 and 15 years, and one daughter, age 6.² Aron Bärle, age 63, adopted the name Aron Bähr in 1809 at Untergrombach, Baden, Germany. The family also consisted of his wife, Ester, age 60, his son, Natan, age 20, and his daughter, Rachel, age 17.¹ He witnessed the birth of Wolf Katz on 1 September 1815 at Untergrombach, Baden, Germany.³ Aron Bär died between 5 April 1825 and 6 April 1825.^4,5

     Her married name was Bär. Ingrid Gerda (?) was born on 5 February 1913.¹ She married Peter Joachim Bär, son of Julius Bär and Eva Weigert. Ingrid Gerda (?) died in July 1999 at London, England, at age 86.^2,1

     Lipmann Bär was born in 1755. He was the son of Bärle Liebmann and Breinle (?) Lipmann Bär was also known as Lipmann Baer.

     Lehmann Bär was born circa 1758.¹ He was the son of Bärle Liebmann and Breinle (?) Lehmann Bär was also known as Lehmann Baer. According to Lehmann's death record his parents were "der hiesige Handelsmann Bährle und dessen Ehefrau Babet" or the local merchant Bährle and Babet. Further information must be located to prove that they are in fact identifical with Bärle Liebmann and Breinle of Untergrombach.² He married Mamel Marx, daughter of Joseph Marx.¹ Lehmann Bär married Riele Löb on 16 May 1816.³ Lehmann Bär died on 1 October 1820 at Heidelsheim, Baden, Germany.²

     Ephraim Bär was born in 1763. He was the son of Bärle Liebmann and Breinle (?) Ephraim Bär was also known as Ephriam Baer.

     Manasse Bär was born in 1762. He was the son of Bärle Liebmann and Breinle (?) Manasse Bär was also known as Manasse Baer. He died in 1848 at Untergrombach, Baden, Germany.¹

     Jeanette Bär was the daughter of Bärle Liebmann and Breinle (?) Jeanette Bär was also known as Jeanette Baer. She died in 1832.¹

     Babette Bär was born on 27 September 1830 at Untergrombach, Baden, Germany.¹ Babette Bär was also known as Babette Baer. She was the daughter of Falk (Valentin) Nathan Bär and Karolina Dreifuss. Babette Bär married Nathan Jakob Homburger, son of Jakob Koppel Homburger and Karoline Gitel Freund, on 7 December 1853 at Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany.² As of 7 December 1853,her married name was Homburger. Babette Bär died in 1907 at Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany.

     Nathan Jakob Homburger was born in 1825 at Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany. He was the son of Jakob Koppel Homburger and Karoline Gitel Freund. Nathan Jakob Homburger married Babette Bär, daughter of Falk (Valentin) Nathan Bär and Karolina Dreifuss, on 7 December 1853 at Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany.¹ Nathan Jakob Homburger was Butcher, Merchant. He died in 1901 at Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany.

     Karolina (Lina) Homburger was born in 1857 at Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany. She was the daughter of Nathan Jakob Homburger and Babette Bär. As of 1875,her married name was Simon. Karolina (Lina) Homburger married Leon Simon on 8 December 1875 at Heidelberg, Baden, Germany.¹ Karolina (Lina) Homburger died in 1910 at Wiesbaden, Germany.

     Leon Simon was born in 1846 at Wehen, Germany. He married Karolina (Lina) Homburger, daughter of Nathan Jakob Homburger and Babette Bär, on 8 December 1875 at Heidelberg, Baden, Germany.¹ Leon Simon died in 1897.
