She was the daughter of Lewis Strauss and Sara Prager.1
Bertha Strauss, Amalie Strauss and Bella Strauss and Sara Prager appeared on the census of 1 June 1880 at 26 Locust St., Pittsburgh, Allegheny, Pennsylvania.3
"Miss Strauss, who was one of the pioneer women insurance underwriters, entered the life insurance business as secretary to the late Edward A. Woods. Upon incorporation of the Edward A. Woods Company, Miss Strauss became its first secretary. Later she was appointed a director."4
Bertha Strauss died on 19 October 1936 at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, at age 64.4

Jacob of 525 West End Avenue, New York, Was found dead in the Royal Poinciana Hotel here just after 9:30 this morning. A doctor who was called said that Mr. Jacob had died of heart disease, probably caused by the shock of taking a cold bath. The body was sent to New York tonight for burial. Mr. Jacob was 53 years old. He was a merchant of sandals, and leggings with offices at 85 Fifth Avenue."2,3

- [S54] No record of a divorce has been searched for or located yet. An obituary for Beatrice E. Strouse on 01 February 1996 in The Sun (Baltimore, MD) states "In 1935, she married Samuel S. Strouse, who died in 1982." This matches up to Florence's husband. Additionally she is mentioned on the Society page of The Jewish Criterion on 27 December 1935 as "Miss Florence Strauss of Plainfield Street. The two articles taken together seem to indicate that Samuel and Florence were therefore no longer married to each other at the end of 1935.
