He was the son of Isaak Herbst and Fanny (?)1 Gustav Herbst married Fanny Weingärtner, daughter of Jacob Weingartner and Jette (Jetle) Kirchhausen, on 24 March 1904 at Flehingen, Baden, Germany.1 He became deaf towards the end of the 1920s.1 Gustav Herbst and Fanny Weingärtner lived before 1931 at Michelbacherstraße 171, Zaberfeld, Lkr. Heilbronn, Württemberg, Germany.1 Gustav Herbst died on 10 November 1931 at Lauffen, Württemberg, Germany, when he was run over by the Heilbronn - Stuttgart train.1
