From a newspaper article about Gustav Herbst's death:

" * Run Over by a Train. Yesterday evening the deaf, 53 year-old cattle dealer, Gustav Herbst from Zaberfeld, who is the father of 8 children, was run over at the Lauffen train station by the Heilbron-Stuttgart passenger train, that travels through Lauffen at 8:57. The train ran over his head and death was instantaneous. It is said that the railroad personnel are not to blame. Herbst was warned to not step onto the tracks, but the deaf man probably did not understand the warnings. It was also understood, that he freed himself from someone who held him back and continued walking. The train roared through and the terrible accident was unavoidable. The cattle dealer, who was so abruptly died, was well known throughout the district."
