Edward Stewart, 81, of Northbrook, died Dec. 12 in Swedish Covenant Hospital, Chicago.

Mr. Stewart was born April 29, 1918 in Chicago. Until his retirement 12 years ago, he had been in sales in the electronics field. Prior to that he had owned and operated the Stewart Packing Co., a meat company.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the European Theatre, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, and was in the first group to liberate Buchenwald. He was a member of the Traffic Commission of Highland Park; a former member of the Board of Trustees of North Shore Congregation Israel, Glencoe, of the Highland Park Hospital Foundation Dialysis Unit and of the Board of the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey, of Northbrook; his son, Donald, of Highland Park; two daughters, Sandra Liszt of Highland Park and Gail Barnard of Highland Park; and five grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 15, at North Shore Congregation Israel. Entombment was in Memorial Park in Skokie. Memorial donations may be made to the Highland Park Hospital Foundation Dialysis Unit, 718 Glenview Ave., Highland Park IL 60035.
