Las Vegas has lost one of its first original fraternity executive chefs of Las Vegas. Paul Lenard was born Jan. 4, 1918 and passed away on Jan. 4, 2004. Paul was inspired by his mother's cooking and entered culinary school in Switzerland. He came to America in 1937 and served in the U.S. Army. Upon leaving the Army he used his culinary skills in such famous places as the Waldorf Astoria, Lincoln Center and the 21 Club in New York. While visiting a friend in Las Vegas he was offered a job as an assistant chef. He gladly said yes and became a Las Vegan. Over the years, Paul was a lifetime member of the New York and Las Vegas Chef's Associations, a licensed ACF/CEC and member of the American Academy of Chefs. He became Chef of the Year and received outstanding service awards throughout his career. He was inducted into the Chefs Hall of Fame and was an honorary member of the Executive Chefs of Las Vegas. He was also president of the Fraternity Executive Chefs of Las Vegas Association. So many people will miss Paul Lenard. He not only left family members that loved him but so many friends as well. He has left a history of accomplishments and because of Paul so many young culinary students have an opportunity to succeed in the industry. He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Lenard. Paul is survived by his daughter, Doris Weiss and family. He is also survived by the love of his life, Christiana Wessel; her two daughters, Barbara and Patricia; as well as grandchildren, Austin, Clinton and Erika. He was a wonderful stepfather and grandfather to his second family who loved him so much. Thank you Paul for all the joy you brought to our lives. You will be in our hearts forever.
