Deceased Name: Thomas Ernst Baer
Services have been held for Thomas Ernst Baer, principal of Mountain View High School, who died last week at the age of 49.

Mr. Baer died Saturday after a nine-month battle with cancer. He was a former Los Gatos planning commissioner and worked on many local civic committees.

Mr. Baer was born June 3, 1948. He graduated from Cupertino High School in 1966, received his B.A. degree from Dartmouth College in 1970 and then returned to California to get a teaching credential and M.A. in education from San Jose State University.

He taught at Homestead and Lynbrook high schools in the South Bay and then was assistant principal at both Lynbrook and Fremont high schools. He became principal of Mountain View High School in 1995.

Mr. Baer and his wife, Cynthia, were founding members of Congregation Shir Hadash in Los Gatos, and Mr. Baer served as temple president.

He is survived by his wife and daughters Rachel and Emy of Los Gatos; his mother, Gertrude; and a sister, Lillian Baer.
