MAREA ALEXANDER BROADBENT, 90, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at her residence in Memphis, TN. She was born March 18th, 1919 to Julius Karl Baer and Caroline Markeim in Philadelphia, PA. She had a lifelong love of learning, graduating high school at 15, college at 18, achieving her Ph.D. and spending a large part of her life as a teacher, teaching all grades and serving as an executive director at a school for the mentally challenged. She also served as a guidance counselor and later as the Director of Health and Manpower for the State of Delaware. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 27 at Canale Funeral Directors. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 28 at Idlewild Presbyterian Church, with interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Marea was preceded in death by two husbands, R. Lytle Alexander and Joseph W. Broadbent. She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Denley of Memphis, TN, Carolyn Crossan of Landenberg, PA, and her eldest, Marea Edynak of Miami, FL. She is also survived by brothers and sisters, William Baer, Ted Baer, Geraldine Marsh of Delaware, Madeline Baer, Bea Zeiber of Pennsylvania, six grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be sent to Idlewild Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
