     Max Herz was born on 10 September 1853 at Hochberg, Württemberg, Germany.¹ He was the son of Ferdinand Herz and Jeanette Thalmann.¹ Max Herz emigrated in 1869 from Ludwigsburg to America.² He married Bettie Eldridge.³ Max was educated in private schools in Frankenthal and Mannheim and later at Heidelberg. He came to the United States in his early youth, locating in New York and Cincinnati. He was engaged in the cigar brokerage business and traveled throghout the entire South for more than 50 years.⁴ He died on 6 October 1938 at John Sealy Hospital, Galveston, Texas, at age 85.^5,4 He was buried on 7 October 1938 at Hebrew Benevolent Association Cemetery, Galveston, Texas.⁵

     Jonathan Maier Arnold was the son of Mayer Abraham Arnold and Sara Regensburger.¹ Jonathan Maier Arnold lived circa 1839 at Stuttgart, Württemberg, Germany.¹ He married Pauline Rescher, daughter of Salomo Rescher and Rucheses Herz, on 5 November 1839.¹
