bis 1980 war er in sechs verschiedenen Ministerien als Beamter tätig. Im Laufe
seiner Karriere stieg er bis zum Stellvertretenden Staatssekretär auf, war von 1980
bis 1987 Generaldirektor des British Council und wurde 1982 von Königin Elisabeth
II. von Großbritannien zum Ritter geschlagen. Von 1987 - 96 war er Präsident des
Trinity College Oxford. Sir Burgh lebt heute mit seiner Frau in London.² He married Ann Sturge in 1957.⁴ Sir John Burgh lived in 2010 at London, England.¹ He died on 12 April 2013 at England at age 87.⁴
