     Ernestine Holz was born on 11 August 1856 at Weingarten, Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany. Ernestine Holz was also known as Amelia Mosenfelder.1 She was the daughter of Hirsch Simon Holz and Rebekka Kuppenheimer. Ernestine Holz immigrated in 1878 to USA.2 She married Alphonso Mosenfelder on 22 March 1879 at Rock Island, Illinois. As of 22 March 1879,her married name was Mosenfelder. The following was mentioned in an article called "Young Musicians" in the Davenport Daily Leader on 27 January 1895:
"Rock Island Union: Prof. Otto's juvenile orchestra on Wednesday evening [23 January 1895] gave a musicale at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. A. Mosenfelder. The orchestra is composed of Gabie, Simon and Blanche Mosenfelder, Carrie, Sam and James Smythe, Keith Collings, Mattie Jones and Morris and Elsa Simon. About fifty friends of the young folks were present, and were delighted with the choice musical program rendered by them. The evening's entertainment included a recherche collation served by the hostess. Ernestine Holz and Alphonso Mosenfelder appeared on the census of 6 June 1900 at Rock Island, Illinois.3 Ernestine Holz died on 2 February 1926 at 1408 21st Ave., Rock Island, Illinois, at age 69.2 Her obituary stated that "Mrs. Mosenfelder was known for her interest in charitable institutions. She was a member of the Tri-city Temple Emanuel of Davenport; of the Visiting Nurse association of Rock Island, of which she was a director since its orgnaization; of the Bethany Home, of which she was the founder; of the Cleveland Jewish Orpah's Home, of which she has been a director for the past eight years, and of the Deborahs, an organization of Jewish women devoted to welfare work in Palestine, of which she has been president for the past 25 years."2 She was buried on 4 February 1926 at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois.2 The Deborah Society passed a resoultion honoring Mrs. Amelia Mosenfelder shortly following her death.4 Her net estate was valued at $129,664.45 at the time of her death. It was divided up among her children.5

     Alphonso Mosenfelder was born in 1854 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.1 He was the founder of the Mosenfelder & Sons store of Rock Island.2 He married Ernestine Holz, daughter of Hirsch Simon Holz and Rebekka Kuppenheimer, on 22 March 1879 at Rock Island, Illinois.
     Alphonso Mosenfelder was listed as the head of household on the 1900 census on 6 June 1900 Rock Island, Illinois. Also living in the house was his wife, Ernestine Holz, his son, Gabriel Mosenfelder, Simon Mosenfelder and Arthur Mosenfelder, his daughter, Blanche Mosenfelder and Jeanette Mosenfelder.3 Alphonso Mosenfelder died on 9 March 1917 at Rock Island, Illinois.

Simon Mosenfelder and Ernestine Holz appeared on the census of 6 June 1900 at Rock Island, Illinois.3 Simon Mosenfelder was educated in Rock Island public schools. He later attended Harvard University and graduated from there in 1904.4 He married Evelyn Milius on 11 March 1913 at St. Louis, Missouri, USA.5,6 Simon Mosenfelder lived on 12 September 1918 at 915 20th Street, Rock Island, Illinois.2 He registered during the Draft Registration of World War I on 12 September 1918 at Rock Island, Illinois. The name and address of his nearest relative were his wife, Evelyn Mosenfelder, 915 20th Street, Rock Island, Illinois. He was employed as a merchant at M. & H. Co.. The description of the registrant was short with a medium build and black eyes and black hair.2 Simon operated a ready-to-wear store with his brothers in Rock Island. He later moved to St. Louis, Missouri.4 He died on 29 September 1949 at St. Louis, Missouri, USA, at age 67, the result of a heart attack suffered several months earlier.4,7
