In connection with Kaufmann's marriage to the daughter of Löw Simon in Landau there was a question concerning what the required dowry would be. This matter was brought before the town council in Mannheim on 15 March 1774.1,3 Kaufmann Benjamin died on 10 May 1807 at Weingarten, Karlsruhe, Baden, Germany, This date was converted from the original Hebrew date, 2 Iyar 5567.4

    The translation of the paragraph is: "Benjamin Kaufmann, second son of Benjamin Raphael wants to marry the daughter of Löw Simon in Landau and requests protection in Weingarten, District of Bretten. The questions arises, under which provisions is the financial contribution of this woman, coming from abroad, to be determined. The royal decree only deals with the wealth of foreign Jews who marry a local woman, but not the reverse case. Should § 7 N. 4 (which provides for a wealth of 4,000 florins for Mannheim) be applicable?
    The government affirms the question, but refers back the decision.
